About.com just added 3 new sites to their Top 10 Employment sites list:

http://www.linkedin.com
http://www.realmatch.com
http://www.indeed.com

Only one of them is a social network. Employers and recruiters dont care if they know the applicant directly or through a friend, they want to hire the most qualified candidate....nothing will ever change that.

LinkedIn is really taking off. If was one of only two new sites added to the About.com Top ten employment site list. The other 2 new ones were www.realmatch.com and www.indeed.com

William, you're right although...

a) LinkedIn seem to understand the difference between bending and breaking rules; and

b) I'm sure that on balance most recruiters who are so inclined would rather have an extended network for sourcing than worry about whether or not they will surface in a regular name search.

Geoff -

Linkedin considers placing in your email in the same space as your name (it can be another field) as a violation/abuse. The primary reason is that it ruins the search capability.
